Everything Dene people wore came from the land and was made by hand. The dene we entirely clothed by the environment and their own skill and artistry. Hides, furs, and decorative elements, such as quills, seeds, fur, shells, and natural dyes all came from the land. Wearing the best clothes and accessories communicated power and position. Historically, twisted moose and caribou hair to decorate items is an old Athabaskan art predating European contact. Dene Routes provides you with a hands-on creative learning experience, where participants learn the art and skill of caribou hair tufting.
